Hard cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. American ed. In Very Good+ condition with Very Good+ Dustjacket. "At the heart of Buddhism lies the doctrine of the perfection of wisdom. The foremost principles of this teaching are the bodhisattva ideal of the religious life and the essential emptiness of all existence. The sutras known as The Perfection of Wisdom in 8,000 Lines are the oldest version of this important Buddhist text, dating some two thousand years, and are the basis for the present translation." "The message of The Perfection of Wisdom is as applicable to the modern reader as it was to the monks who first studied the text two millennia ago: through an understanding of the perfection of wisdom, it is possible for all of us to detach from the suffering that binds us to the material world, and so move toward enlightenment. This important text is illustrated with extraordinary images taken from the earliest surviving Indian and Nepalese illustrated manuscripts of The Perfection of Wisdom - most of which have never been reproduced before.".

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First English edition ( 'First published in Great Britain 1988' ). I appear to have the Only Robert Hale first English edition for sale anywhere on the Internet. The book is in very nice condition. You can see the covers in the photos. They look perfectly clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The page edges are very clean. The book is square and the spine looks straight. The binding is solid from cover to cover. The covers are nicely, tightly bound. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The pages are exceptionally clean. I'm not finding any instances of soiling. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The dust jacket is in quite decent condition. There are no tears, no conspicuous soiling. The blue coloring on the spine is sun toned, also off the front top edge adjacent to the spine. The flaps are in solid condition, clean, no tears. There is a thin crinkle just below the front flap's top edge. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've always had it in a protective cover. I removed the protective cover because it had some minor wear. I will fit the jacket with a new protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'A savage and witty delineation of aristocratic hypocrisy from the author of The Three Musketeers, now at last available in English in a superb translation by Dumas scholar A. Craig Bell. The ever-popular Dumas is a writer famous by his historical romances. Fernande, in marked contrast, is an urbane comedy of manners and morals combining both charm and mockery in equal measure.'.
