Corners and bottom front are reinforced with matching black bk-tape. Black and white illustrated end papers. Pos penned inside cover dated "1885". Color illustrated frontispiece and facing page 80, 144, 160, 272 are all bright and solidly attached. Title page appears to be missing if there ever was one hence no date, date is approximate. there is a half-title page with different penned name. Hinges not cracked but lightly shaken. Francklin adapted this from Voltaire's Adelaide du Guesclin, which had first appearted in Paris in 1765. Francklin makes no mention whatsoever of Voltaire, or of the French original, and passes the entire work off as his own. First edition in English.
