Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Changing Faces by George Tscherny, softcover, illustrated. published by Princeton Architectural Press, 1994 COMPLETE with face distorting foil sheet, a la Hall of Mirrors. Tscherny apparently has never met a face he didn't like, as long as he can change it. He offers his collection…of playing cards, cartoons, masks, toys, and placards, all of which manipulate perception. He explores masks, puzzles, and drawings that flip, flop, or morph to recreate features, and toys ranging from that potato-based life form to a magnetic toy that applies beards and hair to the follicularly challenged. His collection includes truly odd gender-bending materials from Victorian times, political cartoons that probably landed somebody in jail, and a brilliant though startling accessory in the form of a flexible mirror bound into the book. Tscherny, the principle of a New York design company, is apparently so dedicated to his subject that he graces his own author's biography in a mythical beast mask.

Very Good in Wrappers. 9781933360355. 8 × 11. 32 pages. paperback. keywords: Art Design. DESCRIPTION - This book is about designs born of necessity; often spontaneously, always pr…agmatically. It is also about the particular sensibility of graphic designer George Tscherny and his ability to find beauty or art in the most ordinary things, and to communicate this appreciation to others. Experience his infectious enthusiasm for anonymous, ad hoc, or vernacular design, for objects that have an aesthetic appeal in spite of themselves, for creations that are both ingenious and ingenuous. inventory #45758.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This book is about designs born of necessity; often spontaneously, always pragmatically. It is also about the particular sensibility of graphic designer George Tscherny and his ability to find beauty or art in the most ordinary things, and to communicate this appreciation to others. Experien…ce his infectious enthusiasm for what could be called "anonymous," "ad hoc", or "vernacular" design; for objects that have an aesthetic appeal in spite of themselves; for creations that are both ingenious and ingenuous. Tscherny heavily illustrates the book with items from his personal collection, analyzing everything from the folding lunch box, to the vintage re-closeable bottle, to the artlessly fashioned paper clip, safety pin and wire hanger. These are just a sampling of the many objects he has collected. This book gives the reader a glimpse into his world. George Tscherny began his professional career as a graphic designer in New York in 1950. He served two terms as president of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). In 1997, he was inducted into the New York Art Directors Hall of Fame. A comprehensive selection of his work is included in the Graphic Design Archives at RIT. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

From the flap of the dust jacket: "This is the first comprehensive, full-color volume published on the paintings in The Frick Collection.the book.offers 121 masterpieces in ful color--from early Renaissance devotional pieces to works by the Impressio…nists." In all there are 154 plates in full color. The book opens with an introduction by Charles Ryskamp, the Director of the Frick Collection, that places in perspective the history of the museum and is contents. The commentaries on the color plates were written by Edgar Munhall, the Curator together with Bernice Davidson, Research Curator and Nadia Tscherny, Assistant Curator." There is a small brochure from The Frick Collection with a donation envelope, laid-in. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The double-edge folded dust jacket is bright and still glossy, without edge wear. The upper and lower edges of the hard covers are very slightly sunned, nothing extreme and you have to look carefully under good light to notice. Inside, there is an inked gift inscription to the former owner but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages and color plates are bright and clean throughout, without wear or blemish. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
