B/w photographs; Notes; Sources; Index. Five maps amongst text with the first three having their top page corners creased from past owner's fold-downs. Biography of the short life of William Harrison Bonney, aka Billy the Kid (1859-1881), who earned notoriety during New Mexico's Lincoln County War. Known by several aliases - Henry McCarty, Henry Antrim, Kid Antrim, Billy Bonney, etc. - the Kid's exploits and death at age 21 after a manhunt led by Sheriff Pat Garrett were, as historian Robert Utley argues, representative of the violence prevalent on the American frontier. A very good+ copy in a very good+ dust jacket with Utley's four-line inscription upon the opposing verso of the title page: "For John Stevens | with best wishes of | Robert M. Utley | 11-4-89."
