Joseph Marie Joachim Vigarous (1759-1828) fut, comme son père et son oncle, professeur à l'Ecole de médecine de Montpellier. Courty fait l'éloge de cet ouvrage dans son traité, indiquant que "Vigarous introduisit une innovation féconde en démontrant que le plus grand nombre des maladies qui affectent le sexe féminin sont sous la dépendance de l'appareil génital " et que "partant de cette idée fondamentale", il proposa une classification "remarquable", qui constitua un réel progrès . Il ajoute que cet ouvrage contient de bonnes descriptions et que le style y est clair. Huguier, inventeur de l'hystéromètre, indiqua quant à lui que "Vigarous a pressenti de quelle utilité pourrait être l'introduction d'une sonde dans la matrice". cf.
