Arthur de La Villegille annonce au président de la Société du Berry qu'une subvention de 300 fr. a été accordée par le ministre de l'Instruction publique. "Espérons que cette bonne fortu…ne se renouvellera les autres années. En ce qui me concerne, je ferai tout ce qui dépendra de moi pour que ce premier pas ne soit pas isolé". Dans une seconde lettre, il recommande chaudement Jules Dumoutet, "architecte à Bourges, membre non-résident du Comité des travaux historiques et des sociétés savantes que, sur ma proposition, la société a bien voulu nommer correspondant [.]. M. Dumoutet, fort peu favorisé du côté de la fortune, est un artiste de mérite, habile sculpteur, qui a fait une statue de Vierge pour la chapelle de la cathédrale [de Bourges] et qui a fait également divers travaux de restauration de cet édifice. C'est un des hommes les plus actifs que je connaisse, et l'un des membres du comité qui lui fait les plus nombreuses et les plus belles communications de dessins exécutés dans une grande perfection. Le jour où la Société du Berry l'a admis au nombre de ses correspondants, j'avais communiqué à la société quatre feuilles de dessins (à l'aquarelle), représentant l'ensemble et les détails des importantes substructions romaines découvertes l'année dernière à Bourges sous les caves du palais du duc Jean. Le Journal du Cher a publié des descriptions de ces fouilles, descriptions faites je crois par M. Duplan, mais qui sont loin d'avoir la valeur des travaux de M. Dumoutet, dont la Revue des sociétés savantes va probablement publier la notice qui accompagnait les remarquables dessins que j'ai mis sous les yeux de la Société du Berry [.]".
