1st ed. thus softback with stiff wrappers New book octavo 100pp., Originally published 1921.
Cloth. Condition: Good. None (illustrator). A English edition of the Georgics of Virgil, translated by James Rhoades. Second edition. The Georgics is a poem in four books, likely published in 29 BC. It is the second major work by the Latin poet Virgil, following his Eclogues and preceding the Aeneid. It is a poem that draws on many prior sources and influenced many later authors from antiquity to the present. The subject of the poem is agriculture; but far from being an example of peaceful rural poetry, it is a work characterised by tensions in both theme and purpose. Translated by James Rhoades the schoolmaster, author and translator. In a cloth binding. Externally generally smart, though with some marks and light bumping. Internally, binding tender wih some pages working loose. Pages are quite clean, though with some marginal age-toning. Good. book.
