In February of 1940 the Central Union of Estonian Visual Artists (CUEVA) had taken a decision about holding an event "Year of Estonian Art named after Kristjan Raud". An event started March 1, 1940 and lasted for one year. It aimed at respect and in honor of 75 anniversary of outstanding Estonian artist Kristjan Raud, also at promoting Estonian art to the general public. Main tasks of an event were the presentation of Kristjan Raud's work, holding of numerous exhibitions in various Estonian cities, organization of other cultural events. Travelling exhibitions in four cities Pärnu, Viljandi, Rakvere and Narva, were also ogranized within the framework of an event. Current catalogue is published on the occasion of the travellin exhibition held in Pärnu city from 5 to 13 May 1940 and organized by Central Union of Estonian Visual Artists (CUEVA) within the framework of the Year of Estonian Art named after Kristjan Raud. Catalog begins with and introduction article by artist Ants Murakin giving quite detailed overview of the Estonian art development since the end of 19th century. Among artists of the national awakening period, representatives of the academic realism of Düsseldolf and Petrsburg schools, who considered the founders of Estonian art named painters Johann Köler, Karl Ludvig Maibach, Oskar Hoffmann, Paul and Kristjan Raud, Ants Laikmaa, and sculptors August Weizenberg and Amandus Adamson. Young Estonian movement, which was formed at the beginning of the 20th century, brought Western European modernist trends into art and a number of gifted artists Nikolai Triik, Konrad Mägi, August Jansen, Juhan Greenberg. In the 1920s emergened a new generation of artists influenced by German and French art movements (impressionism, expressionism, cubism, futurism, etc.) Ado Vabbe, Adamson-Eric, Jaan Grünberg, Eduard Ole, Felix Randel, etc., and graduates of Pallas Art School, who were open to finding new ways in art - Kaarel Liimand, Aleksander Bergman, Andrus Johani, Karin Luts, Hando Mugasto, etc. Introduction followed by Kristjan Raud short biography and list of nine works represented at the exhibition. Further provided list of works, for each artwork indicated artist's name and brief biographical statement, title, used technique and price. At the exhibition participated 45 artists, were shown 104 artworks. Among participants were mainly artist of New Generation of the 1920s-1930s, but also some representatives of Young Estonian movement: Adamson-Eric, August Jansen, Eduard Kutsar, Hugo Lepik, Paul Liivak, Paul Luhtein, Ants Murakin, Roman Nyman, Eduard Ole, Felix Randel, Konstantin Süvalo, Nikolai Triik, Eduard Viiralt, etc.

Each of them is mentioned in present album editions. In period 1934-1938 were published four issues. Publication aims popularization of Estonian art, and modern visual arts achievements introduction to the general public. Together with articles reviewing art themes also of great importance reproductions of newest artworks created by CUEVA artists. Each album issue contains about 50-60 reproductions.
