Erste große Gesamtdarstellung des bedeutendsten Künstlers von Regensburg in der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts. Regensburg bildete in der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts ein führendes künstlerisches Zentrum, dessen Produktion, besonders auf dem Gebiet der Buchmalerei, weit ausstrahlte. Die einzige Regensburger Werkstatt, die sich in der schwierigen zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts überregional behaupten konnte, dürfte die des Buchmalers Berthold Furtmeyr gewesen sein. Kostbare Miniaturen von ungekanntem Detailrealismus und nie gesehener Farbigkeit entstanden im Übergang vom Spätmittelalter zur Hochrenaissance in Regensburg. Diese Werkgruppen bilden den Höhepunkt frühneuzeitlicher Buchmalerei in Altbayern.
