Er war aber auch überzeugter Nazi und seit 1933 NSDAP-Mitglied und ist deshalb nicht unumstritten…. Er hatte nach der NS-Machtergreifung den Lehrstuhl Paul Klees an der Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie übernommen, wurde aber bereits 1935 wieder als Professor entlassen. In Folge erhielt er mehrfach Malverbot und drei frühe expressionistische Werke, die er selbst als wertlos bezeichnete, hingen in der Ausstellung "Entartete Kunst". Ob er bereits 1935 nach seiner Entfernung als Professor auf Distanz zum Regime ging oder erst in den letzten Kriegsjahren, wird kontrovers diskutiert. Sprache: de.
