Anderson (1821-1879) was born in Sumter County, South Carolina. He attained distinction in the Mexican American War in the U.S. Army but joined the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He fought at Seven Pines, Second Bull Run, Antietam (where he was wounded), Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spottsylvania and other places. He died in Beaufort, South Carolina.
