Have a seat my friend before you enter the Graffenvold and traverse its byways. Have you come here to rest, to leave the muddy tracks and sharp edges of the world behind? Is that it my fine fellow? Or have you come to beat down the lords of this Land and submit them to your will? Which is it fellow, the easy or the hard road you are after? "I fear you have gone beyond yourself, and here in Inzae your mistake may be your doom. For beyond yonder door is a fearful world clinging desperately to life. Its denizens struggle against a vast array of malignant forces that seek to drag them deeper into the pits of the Maelstrom. And even here, in this backwater called the Reintier, you will find no respite from this meaningless and overwhelming struggle. So take heed traveler, take heed as you enter the Graffenvold, it will do you well to remember that this is a deadly world and lest you take care, you will be engulfed in its dying spasms." Travel south in the goblin kingdoms is always fraught with danger. So many will go only so far as the Baron's outpost, The Vakhund, The Watchdog Tower, and reside there in safety while merchants and others fare their way down the road. But what happens when the Vakhund is attacked by goblins, orcs and bandits? A princess is kidnapped, and only a dangerous trip into the dark, infested goblin kingdoms will reveal the answer. A Castles & Crusades adventure intended for 4-8 characters of levels 1-2, Vakhund: Into the Unknown marks Part 1 in the thrilling Death on the Treklant Trilogy and introduces the grimly realistic World of Inzae. Those brave enough to enter her Maelstrom and become heroes shall linger long in the halls of valor and memory.

Product Description:Beneath the crisp clear air of the world's surface lies dungeons, deep and cold, where stone passages lead to hidden chambers and rooms of treasure and wealth. In dungeons are the lost chambers of other worlds where mysteries belie the truth of past labors. But the shadow's dark hide monsters both foul and fair. Creatures who feast upon the unwary stalk these chambers and the undead are ever present. However, it is in dungeons that adventurers always seek their fare. Gold, glory, fame and more lie in the forgotten tombs of dead kings, in wizard's maze or the warriors stronghold. Since the advent of fantasy gaming dungeons have been a mainstay at any gamer's table. They offer quick adventure with little need for backdrop or story and capture the mood and essence of adventuring. Making dungeons can however, be time consuming and difficult. And more often than not dungeons that are thrown together create haphazard adventures that savvy players can pick up on. Engineering Dungeons brings the wearied Castle Keeper the tools to entice the imagination, to create, wholesale, from scratch, a varied array of dungeoneering experiences. You will find the means to determine monsters, their treasures, their lairs . . . who, where, and why a dungeon exists, and even flavorful aspects of the dungeon environment, such as light, air condition, and odors. Traps, of all sorts, designed to function as a universal difficulty system, are waiting and so is adventure.

Troll engineers, artisans and countless slaves bent their backs to the task for many moons. They dug into the cliffs along the foothills of the mountains and there they built a palace of stone and dark tunnels. From their mountain fastness the trolls continued terrorizing the lands about, plundering the folk and carting them off to their pits and holes. In time however, the trolls, being voracious eaters, whittled away their food source until only small varmints and their gnomish kin remained. It took many years, but the trolls dispersed and moved on to more plentiful pastures. The complex was abandoned and left nearly empty. The kingdoms of man eventually expanded into the old troll haunts and the region was settled. Frontiersmen arrived and mapped the land. Settlers followed, creating homesteads upon the green slopes of the hills. Clergy followed the homesteaders and not far behind them the nobility, claiming the land for themselves. Towns and villages sprung up here and there and the people lived peaceful if taxing lives under the shadow of the mountains. The old troll hunting grounds became home to a young Baron, his court and people. In time the old troll complex was discovered. Some brave and adventurous sorts even dared to go there in search of gold and treasure. Many never returned. Some returned with nothing to report but empty halls and passages. A few spoke of great demons roaming the depths of the dungeon. And a tiny few spoke of great treasure piled in heaps too large to carry.Yet no treasures have ever materialized, no demon has wandered into the lands, no armies sallied forth from its depths and, well, nothing really of any interest to anyone is associated with the dungeon. The only lasting impact of the trolls and their complex are terrifying tales of monsters, demons, orcs and other creatures told to young children. Hardly a soul believes them. They are told, one might surmise, to keep young children and the foolhardy away from the cliffs into which the complex was built, for the true danger lies in the many chimeras that now roost in those jagged cliffs. And for that reason, the area around the complex is exceedingly dangerous. But the old tales always have a germ of truth in them, some more so than others, and trolls, of all the worldâs evils, have a way of coming back . . . .This module is designed for 4-6 characters of level 6-8. All classes are useful in the adventure but a cleric or healer is probably necessary for the long term survival of any partyâs members.
