Peter Halban, London, 1990; 8vo, 160 x 240mm; pp [viii], 245; frontispiece of Olga and with another 24pp of plates; red cloth titled gilt on the spine, a very good copy in a good pictorial dust wrapper. . . . . . . Olga Gutman Benário Prestes was a German Jew and from an early age a Communist activist. She was tasked with helping the escape and return to Brazil of Luis Carlos Prestes, the revolutionary and later General Secretary of the Brizilian Communist Party, who she married and with whom she had a daughter. Although using an alias she was betrayed in Brazil and returned to Germany "as a gift to Hitler" by the quasi-fascist President of Brazil and was eventually executed in Bernberg Euthanasia Centre in 1942, aged 34. Baudier, A and P (graveurs) (illustrator).
