Two children's books written in rhyming couplets by Frederic Weatherly, the author of the sentimental song 'Danny Boy'. With illustrations to each page by W. J. Hodgson, including six colour illustrations in each volume. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Externally, rather worn. Rubbed to the paper wraps. The cover is beginning to lift from the boards in the Men of Ware, and both volumes are missing some wrap to the extremities. Internally, generally firmly bound to The Men of Ware, however the Maids of Lee is very tender, with the title page disbound. Pages are age-toned but generally clean. Good Only. book.

Red cloth backed color pictorial glazed paper covered boards with light soiling, minor rubbing to the corners and edges of the front cover, and minor wear to the corners and edges of the back cover for what is a nice copy of the book. Blue and white floral motif endpapers. [16] pp. This is a book of verse for children, the highlight of which is six metamorphic dissolving scenes, each composed of two colored pictures divided into four horizontal slats, the upper picture overlaying the lower one; when a card tab situated at the bottom of the page is pulled down, the upper slats move downward and disappear beneath the second set of slats below to reveal a new (the second) picture; all metamorphic plates are bright and clean, and function as intended; small tears by the pull tabs or around the "frames" of the pictures on four of the six metamorphic plates; sepia line drawings within text throughout; rear hinge starting. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD. Only five copies located on OCLC/WorldCat. RARE.
