Fascinating account of the Patagonian adventure of Lady Florence Dixie, the first written by a woman. Related to English royalty, her weariness with civilized social life led her to embark on this journey through a territory where you can gallop and where you are free of fevers, friends, vermin, letters, telegrams and all the other inconveniences to which one is exposed in any other place. Florence Dixie, who was already renowned as a writer, also practiced journalism, was probably the first female war correspondent and was active in favor of women's rights and against British colonialism. His interest and concern for nature are clearly expressed in his story, in the brief correspondence he had with Charles Darwin about what he observed during his trip, and in the specimens of native fauna he took with him on his return to London. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
