Originally published by Blackie in 1940. The first edition was thicker and had an illustration on the spine of the boards. There is a little light bumping and rubbing to the corners but the boards are otherwise unmarked. Light marking to the page edges. Gift message in ink on the front free end paper. The pages are otherwise unmarked. The jacket has chipping with a little loss at the top and bottom of the spine and the corners and there are half-inch closed tears at the bottom corners of the front panel with some creasing between these. Light discolouration to the rear panel. The jacket has a 5/- price printed on the front flap. Illustrated by W.E. Wigfull with four monochrome plates. First printing.
