Magazine / Periodical
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. A vintage magazine targeted for railroad commuters from the mid 1950's. This issue is marked Volume 1, Number 1 and is probably the premier (first) issue. While the date that appears on the cover is December 1955, the title page has a date of November 1955 (typo? late printing?). Perhaps not, since it indicates on the title page that it is published four times a year (November, January, March and May). "Published in the interest of all commuters, whatever their station." In addition to a variety of essays of interest to commuters ("Why Trains Run Late" - "Eyestrain on Trains", etc.), there is a comic b/w photo essay on Sid Caesar commuting on the 11:35 with Nanette Fabray, his TV wife. Also includes a feature on 'Tunnel Bridge' (the card game), a crossword, and a cryptogram. The crossword has been completed in pencil by the prior owner. A whimsical, colorful cover by Paul Arlt wraps around from the front cover to the rear and depicts commuters seem through train windows. (They all seem to be men! A sign of that time!) The rear cover is missing a very small piece in one upper corner near the spine which really does not take away from the cover art; otherwise, this piece is in very good condition.

Before the terrifying prospects of internal strife, armed suppression and needless destruction descend fully upon us all.' - Whitney M. Young, Jr.).
