Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Jack Hearne (illustrator). 1st Edition, Illustrated Edition. ALFRED HITCHCOCK AND THE THREE INVESTIGATORS #18 - THE MYSTERY OF THE SHRINKING HOUSE by William Arden, illustrated by Jack Hearne, published by Random House, copyright 1972, First Printing (lists to #16 Nervous Lion on rear panel); no references to Gibraltar Library Binding on rear cover, blue spiderweb/ graveyard illustrated endpapers, illustrated front board. Book has no creased page corners, almost no dust soiling to outer page edges which are still white (no age darkening/foxing), endpapers are clean and free from any tape residue, no tearing or splitting of page block from internal hinges (very very common defect with these early 3 investigator books - the glue on the page block is always separating from the boards), no former owner's markings or used bookseller stamps/stickers inside, no wear to board edges, board corners, almost no wear to spine tips, no spine sun darkening, no color rubbing to boards, no surface color tears to boards, no bumped board corners. Note: This book comes protected by a removable clear Brodart book cover - see white areas in 2nd & 3rd picture (cover is not taped to book - it can be simply slipped off if desired) which prevents further rubbing/soiling damage to the outer boards. Any white marks/glare lines in the photo are simply glare from the flatbed scanner reacting to this Brodart cover (and are not actual defects with the book). Overall a N-FINE book of a hardcover first printing Three Investigators book. I have a number of other hardcover and paperback Three Investigator books up for sale.

Add to basketSoftcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 196pp, with colour and black and white illustrations. Illustrated card covers. 4to. Covers have gentle edge wear with very slight curl to rear upper leading corner. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. From the blurb: 'A product for the royal court of France, the Hours of Henry VIII, created around 1500 by Jean Poyet, is one of the most splendid Books of Hours from this period. This magnificently illustrated lay book of daily devotions and prayers contains fifty-five exquisitely hand-painted images all reproduced here together and in color for the first time. The previously little-known Poyet (active ca. 1483-1503) enjoyed the patronage of the courts of three French kings. Not only an illuminator of manuscripts of the highest quality, Poyet also created panel paintings, elaborate drawings, and designed theatrical spectacles, all in a style that links Fouquet to Poussin. Author Roger Wieck provides a thorough explanation of the importance both of this grand manuscript within its art historical context and of Poyet's artistic achievements, which fluidly merged the cool, late Gothic aesthetic of his native northern France with the avant-garde Renaissance style of northern Italy. All Poyet's known works are discussed and illustrated. Also detailed commentaries by William M. Voelkle and K. Michelle Hearne on each section of the Book of Hours, and an analysis of the fascinating history of the manuscript (tradition holds that it was once in the collection of Henry VIII, hence its name today)'.
