Good condition, front leaf detached with a tear which was mended, but not recently. 16 pp. The cover has two view of a "New Steam Coach" with two other pages of illustrations of its construction. While the coach involved, patented in Engl…and by Burstall and Hill, was intended for use on roads, there were clearly insurmountable problems (steep hills, mud, major ruts, etc.) which made this vehicle, a primitive steam automobile, unsuitable for all but the very best roads of the day. However, it is similar to some of the designs of the earliest railroad locomotives, albeit with the engine here being a single unit with the passenger area rather than as separate elements. This publication was a direct precursor to the Journal of the Franklin Institute. Lomazow 184, Mott I: pp.556-557.
