"The most wide-ranging and accessible thoughts of a philosophical genius, from his private notebooks. Throughout his life, Ludwig Wittgenstein reliably set down his thoughts in notebooks. This volume offers a selection of the most interesting and important of the remarks from those notebooks that deal with matters other than technical philosophical issues. In these pages, Wittgenstein reflects on religion, the work of philosophy, genius, music, architecture, and much more. Peter Winch's translation of Wittgenstein's remarks on culture and value presents all entries chronologically, with the German text alongside the English and a subject index for reference." ; 174 pages.

Both book and unclipped dust jacket are otherwise in excellent condition with no inscriptions. All contents are tight and clean. "The late C. K. Ogden preserved original material of great interest relating to the publication in England of Wittgenstein's Logisch-Philosophische Abhandlung under the title: Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. This material confirms a statement made in Ogden's prefatory note to the translation that the proofs of the translation and the version of the original which appeared in the final number of Ostwald's Annalen der Naturphilosophie (1921) had been very carefully revised by the author himself. The material has been edited by Professor G. H. von Wright, one of Wittgenstein's executors. It contains 14 letters from Wittgenstein to Ogden; to two of the letters are attached extensive comments referring to points in the English translation, and there is a typed questionnaire prepared by Ogden which is heavily annotated in Ogden's and Wittgenstein's hands. This has been reproduced in facsimile. A number of letters and other communications from F. P. Ramsey, Bertrand Russell, and Ostwald are included. The editor has on the whole refrained from comments of an evaluative character, but any reader interested in the Tractatus will see that the material published here sheds valuable light on the original English translation of the book, and occasionally on Wittgenstein's thoughts.".

"In the last years of his life, from 1949 to 1951, Wittgenstein's writings focused upon knowledge and certainty (collected together in On Certainty), upon colour concepts (in Remarks on Colour) and upon the relation between the "inner" and "outer", that is, between so-called mental states and bodily behavior. His writings on this third theme, now available in paperback, are gathered here for the first time. Wittgenstein's last weeks were a period of high creativity during which his thoughts were on a level with the best he ever produced. His variation on the classic philosophical theme of the relation between mind and body is no exception.".
