This work is a limited edition, being numbered 356 of a total of 525 copies printed. This volume contains concise biographies on John Craig, Bishop David Cunningham, Bishop Peter Blackburn, Bishop…Patrick Forbes, Bishop Adam Bannantyne, John Durie, Bishop David Lindsay, Principal Alexander Arbuthnet, Sub-Principal James Lawson, Principal Robert Howie, Principal and Bishop William Forbes, Principal Charles Ferme, and John Johnstoun. All of these men were Scottish religious figures, ranging from poets, to clergymen, to university Principals. Through looking at these important figures, the reader gets an interesting look at the history of the Scottish church. Robert Wodrow was a Scottish historian, who is best known for his work 'The History of the Sufferings of the Church of Scotland from the Restoration to the Revolution'. He was a parish minister at Eastwood for over thirty years, as well as training as a librarian and writing many religious works. With a frontispiece and one plate. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'V. J. A. Flynn, Edinburgh, 20 Sept 1975'. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor shelfwear to the boards. Light rubbing to the boards. Minor sunning to the spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Front hinge is starting but firm. Bookbinders label to the front pastedown. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the recto to the front endpaper, 'V. J. A. Flynn, Edinburgh, 20 Sept 1975'. Internally, generally firmly bound.
