THIS ASSOCIATION COPY ACCOMPANIED AN ORIGINAL 1953 "USONIAN HOUSE" GUGGENHEIM EXHIBITION CATALOG, AN ORIGINAL FOLDING PROSPECTUS FOR THE BOOK FROM HORIZON PRESS AND AN ORIGINAL POSTCARD MAILED FROM TOKYO TO MRS. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT. Likely the most important association copy of this book that exists. Wright signed to the publisher and designer of the book itself. The first book in Horizon's run of Wright's lifetime works. From the personal collection of Ben Raeburn, owner of the influential Horizon Press. Ben, who actually did a two-year stint in prison for mailing "obscene" books in the 30's, is best remembered for his work with Frank Lloyd Wright. Raeburn published many books by and about Wright's architecture. His published work also included James T. Farrell, Robert Olen Butler, Helen Levitt, James Agee, Aaron Siskind, Berenice Abbott, Edwin Denby and many more. Raeburn's Horizon Press was known for it's exquisite book design. Signed.

Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 114 [1] pp. Cream-colored cloth boards. No dust jacket. Very slight shelf wear. Spine shows light toning. Binding tight, pages clean and well-preserved. Signed by Frank Lloyd Wright: "To Robert Furneaux Jordan / Fellow [?] great work. / Frank Lloyd Wright." Illustrated with black-and-white photographs and drawings, this volume reflects Wrightâs spirited defense of individuality and creative genius against the pressures of conformity and mediocrity. A personal and provocative statement from Americaâs most influential architect. Furneaux Jordan was a prominent British architect who was a lecturer at the Architectural Association School in London, where Wright was a guest in 1950. From the collection of (Thomas William) Fellow Atkinson, another notable British architect (without markings). Signed by a titan of his field, this first edition holds strong appeal for collectors and remains a cornerstone item in twentieth-century architectural literature. In store case 3. .

Hardcover. Small 4to. Beige cloth with black lettering. 113pp. Illustrations. Very good. Usual age toning to otherwise-nice binding, with text block tight and near fine; lacks dust jacket. Handsome first edition of Wright's thoughts on the glory of architects and their place in society, together with his tribute to the master under which he apprenticed for five years in Chicago, Louis Sullivan. On the half-title page, he inscribes and signs this copy large and bold in blue ballpoint: "Frank / Lloyd / Wright to the / Deiker's [?] at / Taliesin." The 39 illustrations consist of drawings given to Wright by Sullivan shortly before the latter's death. Inscribed copies of this title are seldom seen and this is a choice example.
