Contents fair/good, tight copy, no inscriptions, some pages very good and clean, some pages with foxing/staining, 2 with tiny holes to edge. The wonderful illustrations include early chess pieces, jewels, Armour, silver, drinking cups, ivory carvings, watches, swords and lots more. Thomas Wright wrote the 84 page introduction & all else by Frederick W. Fairholt, i.e drawn, engraved all plates & descriptions of plates. So in total it's 45 fully illustrated pages + 135 pages text + ii + colour illustrated title page + 44 protective tissue pages. Alfred Denison, 1st Baron Londesborough (1805-1860) known as Lord Londesborough, collected classical, medieval and Renaissance pieces in the 1850s and presented a notable collection of rings and brooches to his wife, including medieval Irish and Anglo-Saxon items. Most were auctioned after he died by his wife including at Christie's in 1888, some possibly in 1896 again at Christie's, with buyers including museums, Royalty & dealers.
