First Edition
Cassigneul. By Enrico Navarra. Foreword by Charles Zalber. Paris: Atelier d'Art Desjobert, 1986. Limited edition of 1,000 copies, published in conjunction with Art Expo New York, Jacob K. Javits Center, April 3-7, 1986 (Booth 1500). Hardcover with pictorial French flap dust jacket, itself an original lithograph produced by Atelier d'Art Desjobert. Includes an additional lithograph within the book. Condition: Like New. Dust jacket lithograph bright, crisp, and intact, interior lithograph pristine. Binding tight, pages clean and fresh. This scarce Enrico Navarra limited edition is both an exhibition catalogue and a fine art portfolio. The combination of a lithographic dust jacket and a bound lithograph makes this an important collectible for admirers of Jean-Pierre Cassigneul (b. 1935), known for his vibrant Fauvist-inspired portraits of women. These volumes were published under the direction of Enrico Navarra (1959-2020), the influential Parisian art dealer and publisher. Navarra was renowned for producing finely crafted, limited-run art books that often blurred the line between catalogue and portfolio. Working with major artists and ateliers in Paris (including Atelier d'Art Desjobert and Mourlot), Navarra issued editions in runs as small as 1,000 copies, frequently incorporating original lithographs on the dust jackets or within the books themselves. His publications celebrated both established masters such as Bernard Buffet and contemporary voices like Jean-Pierre Cassigneul, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring. Note on Livres d'Artiste: This volume belongs to the French tradition of livres d'artiste ? books conceived as works of art in their own right, combining text with original prints (often lithographs or etchings). Produced in limited editions and sometimes issued for exhibitions, these publications blur the line between catalogue and portfolio. Collectors prize them not only as books but also as objects containing authentic lithographs that reflect the artist's hand and the craftsmanship of Parisian ateliers. Small 'dent' about 3/4 inch in length on front cover which does not affect the integrity/strength of the material.
