Interesting and scarce collection of spiritualist writings from the Hungarian born Gustav Zerffi (1820-1892) who in his later years wrote on various subjects generally in the areas of secularism, history of religion, and science. Zerffi was a bit of a Renaissance man wearing hats from Hungarian revolutionary to Austrian secret service agent, art historian and lecturer to journalist and secular theorist. His other works includeNatural Phenomena and their Influence on Different Religious Systems (1873); Dogma and Science (1876); and The Spontaneous Dissolution of Ancient Creeds (1876). Wisconsin Consistory Library presentation plate to front pastedown, ownership signature to verso of frontis else clean internally. Small split at cloth of upper joint as well as sticker residue near base of spine. Few other spots and blemishes to boards else very good.
