En 1929, il entre à la Radio Corporation of America dont il devint directeur des recherches. Zworykin est l'inventeur , en 1934, de l'iconoscope, le premier d'une longue lignée de tubes électroniques analyseurs d'image qui feront faire à la télévision des progrès considérables.
