This book is an assemblage of source material, primarily letters and other documents, gathered by the author who was an influential minister and historian of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It mainly covers the period of 1728-9, during which the Church of Scotland was riven by theological and political disputes. This volume focuses on the fallout from the deposition of Mr Simson, a minister accused of heresy, and the ongoing struggle between the established church and the growing number of dissenting groups. These divisions ultimately led to the formation of the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
