While relatively few of the hundreds of fungi it describes are found outside of Central Europe, its insights remain valuable to scholars and modern-day mycologists who seek to classify, understand, and identify mushrooms. Schäeffer based his work on firsthand observation and study of each mushroom, an approach that yielded hundreds of highly detailed illustrations. This book pays homage to his undertaking, bringing together the original text with its beautiful full-page engravings. Those interested in the history of mycology, the relationships between species, or the identification and classification of fungi will find this a fascinating and important compendium. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
