Kyan's process uses chemical treatment to prevent dry rot and insect damage, extending the life of wood. The author traces the history of efforts to treat and preserve wood, describing the methods and materials used by Kyan and others. Beyond the practical applications, the book also delves into the theoretical underpinnings of Kyan's process, examining the chemical reactions that make it effective. While Kyan's method has been largely superseded by more modern techniques, this book provides a valuable historical perspective on the development of wood preservation techniques, an essential consideration for the construction and preservation of historical structures and artifacts today.
