This book comes out of the 1887 landmark study by Muybridge of animal locomotion - and this reprint features the plates of the human figure in motion. This book is in fine condition with no damage or time wear showing to the dark blue cloth covers - with bright gilt titling on the spine. The dust wrapper is in near fine condition with only a touch of time wear showing - and just a bit of crinkling at the spine crown. This book features plates of the Muybridge motion camera - with each double-page given a plate number and showing multiple images of the motion by the human figure - both male and female - with 195 plates sequentially illustrated. Muybridge was one of the most renown photographers of the last half of the 19th century and at some point he was employed by California icon Leland Stanford to settle the argument about whether or not a horses feet all left the ground at one point in the horses gallop. Muybridge set up his elaborate and innovative camera at the site of today?s Stanford University to take these series photographs of motion - and the result was the famous 1887 first edition of the results of this photographic study of animal motion.…
