Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Jan Pienkowski (illustrator). First U.S. edition. This lovely book has an uncredited introduction, "The Storytellers", about Charles Perrault and the brothers Grimm. Both Pienkowski and Walser contribute short Prefaces of their own. This is a much enlarged (in format) one-volume version of four of the original six titles from "Jan Pienkowski's Fairy Tale Library"', published as individual small-format hardbacks by Heinemann and Gallery Five in 1977. Contains the four fairy tales: "Sleeping Beauty", "Snow White", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Cinderella", with the color and black & white silhouette illustrations of Pienkowski. New translations from the original Perrault or Grimm by Pienkowski's long-time collaborator and civil partner, David Walser. Published the previous year in the U.K. by Puffin (at which time the enlarged illustrations were newly copyrighted), this is the first printing of the U.S. edition. Hand lettering by Jane Walmsley. A fine copy in fine dust jacket. MC.
