Written in the early 19th century, it reflects the growing moral outrage against the institution of slavery and the burgeoning abolitionist movement. The author argues that gradual emancipation is a dangerous fallacy used by slaveholders to perpetuate their system of oppression. He passionately dismantles the arguments for gradualism, exposing them as self-serving and hypocritical. Drawing on the history of emancipation in Saint-Domingue, the author demonstrates that freed slaves do not inevitably descend into chaos and violence, but rather are capable of responsible citizenship. The book challenges readers to examine their own complicity in slavery by refusing to consume goods produced by slave labor, offering a powerful and practical path towards dismantling the system from within. This book is a vital document of a critical period in the fight against slavery, offering a timeless perspective on the need for immediate and decisive action in the pursuit of justice. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
