Zwar setzt Albrechts Vater, der die rechtmäßige Thronfolge gefährdet sieht, den Sohn unter Druck, seine Buhlschaft" aufzugeben doch der Widerstand von außen bringt die Liebenden nur noch enger zusammen. Als ihnen schließlich eine Tochter geboren wird, schlägt Albrecht alle Warnungen in den Wind und vermählt sich mit seiner unstandesgemäßen Lebensgefährtin. Das bringt das Fass zum Überlaufen und Herzog Ernst setzt eine gemeine Intrige ins Werk, um die verachtete Badhure" endgültig loszuwerden: Als Albrecht zu einer inszenierten Jagdeinladung unterwegs ist, wird Agnes gefangengenommen und als Hexe angeklagt Manfred Böckl nimmt sich in seinem Roman erneut eines Frauenschicksals an. Einfühlsam beschreibt er das Seelenleben der beiden Liebenden, ihr Glück und ihre Pein. Im scharfen Gegensatz zu diesen zarten Passagen stehen die drastischen Schilderungen der Lebenswirklichkeit eines Herzogssohnes mit Blut und Schweiß, Kampfgeschrei und Schwerterklirren. September 1948 in Landau/Isar geboren. Nach Abitur und Studium war er zunächst Redakteur bei einer großen bayerischen Tageszeitung. 1976 machte er sich als freier Schriftsteller selbständig.
