He also won a record number of 12 kinboshi (a gold star given to a maegashira for upsetting a yokozuna), chalked up a total of 10 san-sho (three special prizes), set records for consecutive tournaments in makunouchi (97) as well as consecutive bouts in the top division (1.231), ans was third on the all-time list of most wins in makunouchi (683) at the time of his retirement.
