Mrs. Hatfield gears the telling of the story from her son's perspective towards children, trying to give them insight into what they or a friend may be experiencing. She hopes this book will help people learn to embrace and accept differences as well as why these differences are not scary or any joking matter. These are real people dealing with a reality that they can not change or control in some instances. We can only choose to help, accept, and learn about their lives while they are also learning to integrate into the public world. Being accepted or unique is not bad, it's amazing and makes the world diverse. Mrs. Hatfield believes it's time children have a tool to help them learn to be more accepting.
