Minimal shopwear to edges; book shows no reading creases whatever and is in same condition as would be found on the racks of any "new" bookstore. Square and tight; NO corner curl. Self-published fantasy novel, Christian allegory after the fashion of C. S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia." Taylor says he wrote the book to counteract what he saw as a rise in atheist propaganda in children's books such as Pullman's "His Dark Materials." "The depth and complexity of "The Screwtape Letters" makes it a challenging book to both study and teach. Even though it is brilliantly written using a satirical and humorous approach, this book contains deep spiritual and theological truths. In teaching this work in Sunday School, I found this book to be an invaluable resource. There are many elements that set this study guide apart from others. For each letter, there is a brief synopsis which digs below the surface to reveal the meaning behind many of the communications between Screwtape and Wormwood. Each letter also has an exhaustive list of study questions, with accompanying answers. What impressed me most was that each answer contained numerous references to Scripture so that the reader can continually affirm what God's Word says in relation to the points presented both by the characters in the book and by Mr. Gonzales himself. It allowed our class to dig deep beneath the surface level into the spiritual and theological truths presented by Mr. Lewis in his classic book." - Doug Huitt - Michigan For more information, please Mondo Gonzales pastored for over 15 years at churches in Illinois, Washington State, and Nevada. He currently is a Bible teacher, writer and television co-host at Prophecy Watchers ministry in Oklahoma City. • Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - From the time of the fall of man, when The Creator first annunciated his auspicious plan to remediate the effects of that fatal lapse, the spiritual nemesis of mankind had been at work to unseat the life of God from the soul of man.-Fast-forward several millennia. In 1940, a particularly insightful writer and avowed opponent of that nemesis-one C.S. Lewis-managed to intercept some of the correspondences between one of the Devil's minions-called 'Screwtape'-to a junior devil-called 'Wormwood.' These letters revealed a nefarious plan to tempt and ultimately to destroy just one of the objects of God's saving grace. Spoiler alert-they failed! Now, the Devil and his agents had to start from scratch. Not wishing to be outdone for having failed to snuff out their selected Christian 'rat,' the Enemy hatched an even grander plan. This time he would go after the 'nests,' that is the churches! The selected stratagem was to stir up so much dissension and division, that the unifying ligature of God's Church, which is the secret of its power, would be broken down, thereby exposing the rats themselves to error and apostasy. 'The Slubgob Letters,' named for Lewis' Head of the Tempter's 'Training College,' contains the correspondences between Slubgob and his trainee 'Woodworm,' disclosing the details of this new 'master-plan' to 'eat away' at the structure of the churches, and thus, to destroy both the vermin and their revered institution.-No spoiler alert here. Compact Disc. Condition: new. Compact Disc. From the award-winning audio drama team that brought you Radio Theatre's Amazing Grace and The Chronicles of Narnia. In his enduringly popular masterpiece The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis re-imagines Hell as a gruesome bureaucracy. With spiritual insight and wry wit, Lewis suggests that demons, laboring in a vast enterprise, have horribly recognizable human attributes: competition, greed, and totalitarian punishment. Avoiding their own painful torture as well as a desire to dominate are what drive demons to torment their "patients."The style and unique dark humor of The Screwtape Letters are retained in this full-cast dramatization, as is the original setting of London during World War II. The story is carried by the senior demon Screwtape played magnificently by award-winning actor Andy Serkis ("Gollum" in Lord of the Rings) as he shares correspondence to his apprentice demon Wormwood. All 31 letters lead into dramatic scenes, set in either Hell or the real world with humans--aka "the patient," as the demons say--along with his circle of friends and family. This Radio Theatre release also stars Geoffrey Palmer (Tomorrow Never Dies), Laura Michelle Kelly (Sweeney Todd), Eileen Page (The Secret Garden), and other world-class actors.Includes 10 new songs inspired by the classic book, four behind-the-scenes video documentary featurettes, and a 5.1 surround sound mix. Four CDs, approx. 5 hours TRT. First-ever full-cast dramatization of the diabolical classic"--Container. It is written in a satirical, epistolary style and, while it is fictional in format, the plot and characters are used to address Christian theological issues, primarily those to do with temptation and resistance to it.First published in February 1942, the story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his nephew, Wormwood, a junior tempter. The uncle's mentorship pertains to the nephew's responsibility in securing the damnation of a British man known only as "the Patient".Thin blacl line to back of cover, internally very good Category: Religion & Theology; For further information on this title or for further photographs, please click on the "Ask Seller a Question" button directly underneath this listing. First edition of Lewis' classic novel of spiritual conflict, one of his most celebrated works. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition. An excellent example. Very rare in this condition. The Screwtape Letters comprises thirty-one letters written by a senior demon named Screwtape to his nephew, Wormwood (named after a star in Revelation), a younger and less experienced demon, who is charged with guiding a man toward "Our Father Below" (Devil / Satan) and away from "the Enemy" (God). Versions of the letters were originally published weekly in the Anglican periodical The Guardian between May and November 1941.
