ON 15 may 1932 a young pilot and his mechanic decided to fly across the shimmering Timor Sea through the darkness of a starlit sky , they could not get the idea out of there heads. and thought would mean headlines all over the world. However they failed to arrive in Port Darwin . The two pilots disappeared into the hell of the north Australian bush. Small label on rear pastedown. Some thumbing to first pages. The story of how four German aviators flew from the Rhine to Timor in a Junkers W33D, took off again for a flight to Australia . and disappared. Given up for dead, they were rescued by Aborigines after 57 days with virtually no food in barren Northwest Australia. A classic story of survival, made into an Australian TV mini series in 1985.
