About this Item: Regency Publications/Daya Publishing House, 2001. Hardcover. Condition: New. This book seeks to fill in a long felt need of providing a bird`s Eye view of the issues involved in Language Education in Nagaland in particular and perhaps North-East India in general, where Ethnicity and nationalism are often seen as confronting one another. Growth of literacy has only added to state of discontent as people have become increasingly aware of the role of education in development, but the slow pace of socio-economic changes is unable to cater to their Emerging aspirations. It is often claimed that to plan language is to plan society, but the language planners in the Country are hardly aware of the diversity of context(s) and hence the need to appraise them was long over due. There is a growing feeling in the North-East that Political problems permeate all fields, which needs to be questioned. This book is a modest attempt in that direction so that others can first evaluate the Complex multilingual setting and then join in the debate and create a feeling in the Nagas that their needs and aspirations are worth a genuine Look for they may provide for the most valuable lessons to those who value diversity and want to manage it without impairing its essence. This book brings together Views of some of the important functionaries and ideologies in different linguistic Communities of Nagaland with an aim to stir those who are on the fringes to join in the endeavour to shape their own destiny. Language development requires conscious effort, which can provide for an opportunity for the development of the people. This book may appraise the people of the work to be done. Contents Foreword I. About this Item: Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, India. Hard Cover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. First Edition. History of Science and Philosophy of Science, a primarily interdisciplinary study, deals with the historical and philosophical perspectives of science and explores the mutuality of the relations between the two disciplines. To present the study in a reader-friendly format, it has been divided into two parts, with the first volume (Part 6) dedicated to the ‘history?of science and the second volume (Part 7) to the ‘philosophy?of science. The first volume, History of Science and Philosophy of Science: A Historical Perspective of the Evolution of Ideas in Science, seeks to present a history of science where science is believed to proceed along with the operation of a number of mechanisms that are instrumental to its growth, thus making science a part of a creative culture. This part works out the relation not between history and the history of science, but between science and the history of science. Though the volume focuses mainly on physics and mathematics, it also includes essays on life sciences and consciousness studies. The order of essays is guided not by chronology but by a philosophical interpretation of the development of major reforms and revisions in the field of science both in India and abroad. Some authors have paid full attention to Indian science and its logic, while some others have preferred to deal with Western science. Presented in a fairly non-technical language and readily accessible even to non-specialists, these volumes will be of interest to researchers and well-informed general readers. The order of essays is guided not by chronology but by a philosophical interpretation of the development of major reforms and revisions in the field of science both in India and abroad. Some authors have paid full attention to Indian science and its logic, while some others have preferred to deal with Western science. About this Item: Sri Satguru Publications/Indian Books Centre, 1991. Hardcover. Condition: New. First edition. This volume is meant to Honour an outstanding scholar and an efficient Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India, Dr. Debala Mitra, who has drawn admiration from her various colleagues, both Indian and foreign. These scholars have contributed valuable articles in appreciation of her careful and learned contributions. Dr. Debala Mitra was both a serious academician and an indefatigable worker as an archaeologist. As a Buddhist scholar she is renowned for her volumnous works and as a field worker she is credited with several important excavations. But what makes her so loving and admirable to the scholarly World is her humbleness. And in that respect she represents undoubtedly the traditional Indian concept of a scholarly personality, viz. bhavanti namras taravah phalagame, the Trees bow down (only) due to the weight of fruits. Dr. Mitra has retired from her official Career but not from her educational pursuits. This volume contains writings on various Topics of Indian Archaeology starting from the pre-historic Mohen-Jo-Daro upto the late Medieval period. As Mitra herself is a scholar embracing a wide field of Indology so a host of scholars have contributed to various topics on Indian Art and archaeology belonging to a long period and wide area. As she was also engaged in the field work of excavation and in the Study of art in Nepal, this volume contains three articles on the art and Architecture of Nepal. We thank all our friends and scholars who share our feelings in congratulating Dr. Debala Mitra on her sixty-fifth birthday. Contents: 1.
