Cambridge: Wakefield Press:, 2024. First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New, 184 pp. "An updated, expanded edition of Remedios Varo's translated writings, including pieces never before published in any language With the 2018 publication of Letters, Dreams, and Other Writings, Wakefield Press introduced the writings of Surrealist painter Remedios Varo into English for the first time. These texts, never published during her lifetime, present something of a missing chapter, and offer the same qualities to be found in her visual work: an engagement with mysticism and magic, a breakdown of the border between the everyday and the marvelous, a love of mischief and an ongoing meditation on escape in all its forms. This new, expanded volume brings together the painter's collected writings, an unpublished interview, letters to friends and acquaintances, dream accounts, notes for unrealized projects, a project for a theater piece, whimsical recipes for controlled dreaming, exercises in Surrealist automatic writing and prose-poem commentaries on her paintings." Leonora Carrington (illustrator). Manchester: Manchester University Press:, 2021. First edition, hardcover, New in dust jacket, 139 pp. Cover artwork by: Leonora Carrington "Since her death in 2011, the legendary Surrealist Leonora Carrington has been reconstructed and reinvented many times over. In this book, Gabriel Weisz Carrington draws on remembered conversations and events to demythologise his mother, revealing the woman and the artist behind the iconic persona. He travels between Leonora's native England and adopted homeland of Mexico, making stops in New York and Paris and meeting some of the remarkable figures she associated with, from Max Ernst and André Breton to Remedios Varo and Alejandro Jodorowsky. At the same time, he strives to depict a complex and very real Surrealist creator, exploring Leonora not simply in relation to her romantic partners or social milieus but as the artist she always was. A textured portrait emerges from conversations, memories, stories and Leonora's engagement with the books that she read. Using the act of writing to process and understand the death of his mother, the author has produced a moving and fascinating account of life, art, love and loss." Straddling the worlds of Surrealism, occultism and modernist literature, Ithell Colquhoun (1906-88) was widely respected in her lifetime, but her transgressive, esoteric and poetic paintings and writings were long neglected until Richard Shillitoe's 2009 book Ithell Colquhoun: Magician Born of Nature initiated her revaluation - followed by Fulgur's 2016 publication Decad of Intelligence, the Tate's 2019 acquisition of more than 5,000 Colquhoun works and Amy Hale's 2020 biography. Colquhoun occupies a unique place within the lineage of occult Surrealist painters such as Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo, as her presence in the 2022 Venice Biennale exhibition Milk of Dreams demonstrated." English language. Softcover with pictorial wrappers. Texts, including an artist interview, biography, and list of works, with full-color reproductions of Loy's paintings and gallery install shots. 9 x 6 inches. 11 oz. 104 pp. Bottom of spine slightly stubbed. Text clean. No other issues. Very Good Plus. ISBN: 9781880086308. "One of the few female members of the New Leipzig School, Loy took up painting the same year as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. With origins as a trained horticulturist, she brings a surrealist?s eye to renderings of lush flora and uncanny all-female worlds. Throughout a monumental thirty-year practice, the artist has created a striking oeuvre in which this show expands. In 'Glade,' Loy?s easel is a crossroads where German folklore is mixed with the artist?s subconscious. These visually intricate stories have rich symbolism recalling Pieter Bruegel the Elder and the tradition of Surrealist female painters of the 20th century, such as Dorothea Tanning, Remedios Varo, Leonor Fini, Toyen, and Leonora Carrington. Loy situates her cryptic narratives within 'lichtung,' a word she describes as 'the place in the middle of a dark forest where the sun is shining.' Above all, this clearing is a site of rest amid a turbulent present.".

This volume Eminent Women Artists contains brief life sketches contributions and achievements of 90 leading women artists mostly belonging to America and European countries. In the history of art the women artists had to struggle hard at a time when in the Medieval and Renaissance period art had been the exclusive domain of men. Women were not encouraged in this field. Though basically female mind had always been imaginative artistic and creative. There are many references that the womenfolk of the primitive days painted various art objects during festivities known as folk art which has a pretty long tradition. Art is creation of both men and women's imaginative mind. The superstitions rituals customs and beliefs have encouraged the women to creative production. Early art from cave art drawings to folk art is manifestation of emotions influenced by natural surroundings and nature worship. In the stone age civilization woman perfected herself to primitive folk art. The sense of art no doubt is materialized expression of man and woman's delight in beauty. This publication will certainly be welcomed by the art lovers general readers and specially by those interested in knowing the artistic genius of the women artists. 256 pp.
