Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Retirement's rough when you have to stop the apocalypse.A man who may be the Antichrist is walking the streets of Pittsburgh. Or maybe he's just a jagoff insurance salesman with a big ego and good shoes. An egotistical buffoon Archangel decides the man is the real deal and that it's his job to intervene to stop the end of the world. Even though the Big Guy Upstairs frowns on this kind of interference with his entertainment.Julian 'Jilly' Tetanich is a retired mafia contract killer who now owns a Pittsburgh bar full of colorful characters and whose best friend happens to be a slightly lapsed fantasy football-loving Catholic priest. When rogue Archangel Uriel descends from above with his God Squad sidekicks, they try to enlist Jilly to perform one more hit and save his immortal soul. All Hell breaks loose as the forces of good and evil prepare for this comedic showdown. Jilly will have to decide whether he should stick to his guns or dust them off one last time. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 8vo. Published by The Dial Press, New York. 1963. 381 pgs. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. Small date present to the top right corner of the FFEP. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. This novel is very loosely based upon the notorious Fatty Arbuckle scandal of 1921. Arbuckle was a famous movie comedian when he became the center of a national scandal after a woman was injured at Arbuckle s party and subsequently died, apparently as a result of sexual excesses and possible assault. Arbuckle was tried for manslaughter but not convicted. The public was fascinated, and the papers reported the story and rumors in lurid detail. In retrospect, it's hard to say exactly what happened or who (if anyone) was culpable. EB; 7.1 X 4.1 X 0.7 inches; 350 pages.
