Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Wrappers. 12mo, 20 pp. plus four-page center section on tinted paper. Covers lightly soiled and sunned, slightly creased vertically, about very good. In the mid-1950s Knopf began introducing modern Japanese literature to American readers. As the pamphlet notes, the first such postwar translation was "Homecoming" by Jiro Osaragi, which they published in January, 1955. Center section has two pages of photographic portraits of the writers and two pages of the books in their (pristine!) dust jackets. Writers were Shohei Ooka, Yukio Mishima, Junichiro Tanizaki, Eiji Hoshikawa, Jiro Osaragi, and Yasunari Kawabata. Pamphlet consists of reviews and quotations, with the text signed in type at the end by Harold Strauss, Editor-in-Chief of Knopf. Light item.

Illustrated by Leja Gorska. Number 3 of the Borzoi Chapbooks series with a small broadside prospectus for the series laid in. Archibald MacLeish was not only a well-known poet but also served as Librarian of Congress, appointed by Franklin Roosevelt, a position he used to reorganize and promote the institution. In addition to winning three Pulitzer Prizes, MacLeish was commissioned by the NEW YORK TIMES to write a poem to celebrate the Apollo 11 moon landing, which he entitled "Voyage to the Moon" and which appeared on the front page of the 21 July 1969 edition of the paper.
