Once upon a time, racism was a major thread of the American social fabric, as much a part of life as apple pie, baseball, and lying politicians. A whole lot like today, really, except that blatantly racist material was widely available and so much in the public eye that hardly anyone thought it wrong or unusual. The idea that a racist card such as this was printed in large quantities, was widely available, and sold very well, is mind-boggling today, even though there are still enough examples of racism that no one should be too surprised that these things were so popular. This particular example is an unused Valentine's Day card from 1925, with an accompanying envelope, also unused, but with minor glue stains (these cards came in boxes of 25, another indication of wide acceptance). One word in the image of this one has been x-d out, 'cause I'm pretty sure that only a bigot would be so stupid that he or she couldn't figure it out. Size: 16mo - over 5¾ - 6¾" tall. Greeting Card.

There are 8 thick cardboard scenes with holes cut out in various places, any one of these scenes can be placed over any of the 6 paper pages so that the reader can change the text and illustrations to create a number of stories. The illustrations have a Volland style look . The book has edge wear and the title page at the back is almost tore off but still attached barely at the top. A large left hand corner bend on the title page. A chip at the bottom bottom hand corner next to the spine.

Title page (curtain) has creased corner and closed tears at top and tail edges. Flyleaf missing. No writing in the book - a few crayon marks on title page and the backs of cardboard pages, not affecting the pictures. On the whole a nice copy, illustrations are vivid and "peek-a-boo show" is functional. A unique design. Full refund if not satisfied.

With six heavy card pages with cutout windows, followed by six leaves which can be inserted or interwoven between the cards to create a variety of scenes, all in full color. Each card leaf with four lines in verse which describe the scene. A fine copy preserved in the ORIGINAL PUBLISHER'S LIDDED BOX. The box lid repeats the cover scene. Box with some wear and two side flaps detached but present. An elaborate toy book, very scarce in the box.

How Lorelei Lee might consume the brain food offered by bridge! Advice on how to play men while playing the game. Slight, dated, fun. The humor in the text may now seem tired and strained, but the illustrations compensate. With the original box, now with closed tears along a few edges. The booklet itself is well-preserved.
