Er lebt in Frankfurt am Main und am Gardasee in Italien. Kirchhoff hat seit 1979 zahlreiche Prosawerke, Texte, Bühnenarbeiten und Drehbücher vorgelegt. Brodkey veröffentlichte in Buchform zu Lebzeiten zwei Romane und zwei Bände mit Erzählungen, ein weiterer Erzählungsband erschien postum. Mai 1950 in New York) war ein jüdischer Briefmarkenhändler und Holocaust-Überlebender, dessen autobiographischer Bericht Mein Weg durch die Nacht dem Schriftsteller Wolfgang Koeppen als Vorlage für seinen Roman Jakob Littners Aufzeichnungen aus einem Erdloch (1948, neu veröffentlicht 1992) diente. Jakob Littner, seit 1911 in München Inhaber einer Briefmarkengroßhandlung, wurde 1938 aufgrund einer von den Nazis erlassenen Verordnung bezüglich der Ausweisung polnischer Juden aus Deutschland verhaftet. Er sollte nach Polen deportiert werden. Hier verweigerte man jedoch die Einreise, sodass er nach München zurückkehren konnte. Während der Novemberpogrome wurde sein Geschäft am 9. November 1938 verwüstet. Littner lebte fortan in einem Versteck, bevor er München am 1. März 1939 in Richtung Prag verließ. Die weitere Flucht vor den deutschen Truppen führte ihn schließlich nach Zbaraz, einer galizischen Kleinstadt im Bezirk Tarnopol nahe der rumänischen Grenze. Nach dem Einmarsch der Wehrmacht und der SS im Juli 1941 wurden Littner, seine Lebensgefährtin Janina Korngold und deren Sohn Richard mit ca. 5000 weiteren Juden in einem Ghetto zusammengefasst, aus dem ihnen im Juni 1943, unmittelbar vor dessen Liquidierung, die Flucht gelang. Gegen Bezahlung kamen sie bei einem polnischen Landadeligen unter und lebten bis zur Eroberung des Gebietes durch die Rote Armee im März 1944 versteckt in dessen Keller. Jakob Littner wanderte im Juni 1947 zusammen mit seiner Frau in die USA aus, wo er in Manhattan erneut ein Briefmarkengeschäft eröffnete. Er starb dort am 6. Mai 1950. Wolfgang Koeppen, eigentlich Wolfgang Arthur Reinhold Köppen (* 23. Juni 1906 in Greifswald; gestorben 15. März 1996 in München), war ein deutscher Schriftsteller. Er wurde vor allem durch seine Trilogie des Scheiterns bekannt, durch die er sich den Ruf eines bedeutenden Autors der Nachkriegsliteratur erwarb. Diese Trilogie entstand Anfang der 1950er Jahre und setzt sich aus den Romanen Tauben im Gras, Das Treibhaus und Der Tod in Rom zusammen. Ihr zu Ehren wird seit 1977 jährlich der Ingeborg-Bachmann-Preis verliehen. Ingeborg Bachmann war das erste Kind des Volksschullehrers Matthias Bachmann und seiner Frau Olga, geborene Haas. Ihre Mutter stammte aus Heidenreichstein in Niederösterreich. Ihr Vater stammte aus einer evangelischen Bauernfamilie in Obervellach im Kärntner Gailtal, wo die Familie in Ingeborg Bachmanns Kindheit oft ihre Ferien verbrachte. Das Gailtal, als Grenzgebiet und Schnittpunkt der drei großen europäischen Sprachfamilien, der germanischen, slawischen und romanischen, war prägend für Bachmanns gesamtes späteres Schaffen. Von 1945 bis 1950 studierte sie Philosophie, Psychologie, Germanistik und Rechtswissenschaften an den Universitäten Innsbruck, Graz und Wien. 1946 erschien ihre Erzählung Die Fähre in der Kärntner Illustrierten, ihre erste Veröffentlichung. Während ihrer Studienjahre lernte sie Paul Celan, Ilse Aichinger und Klaus Demus kennen. Ihre Doktorarbeit setzt sich kritisch mit Martin Heidegger auseinander.
