First edition, first printing, presentation copy from Jackie Kennedy to her step-brother, inscribed on the front free endpaper "For dearest Yusha with much love at Christmas Jackie". The recipient was Hugh D. Auchincloss III (1927-2015), nicknamed Yusha, the son of the second husband of Jackie's mother Janet Lee. The Auchincloss's were a wealthy family that made their fortune in oil and finance, and continue to have a prominent role in American politics. Hugh was 14 when his father married Jackie's mother and he and 12-year-old Jackie became close friends, spending summers together at Hammersmith Farm. The two corresponded throughout their lives up until Jackie's death in 1994. Loring was design director at Tiffany's, his richly illustrated book displaying Tiffany's tableware in a "sumptuous tribute to stylishness in living and to wonderful food" (jacket). Jackie, who was working for Doubleday at the time, had an important role in producing the book, as with other books on Tiffany, but never allowed her name to appear on the books, telling the author "I absolutely cannot have my name put into a commercial venture" (Lawrence, p. 104). Nonetheless, the Tiffany books were among her favourites of the various titles she had a role in over the years. Greg Lawrence, Jackie as Editor, 2011. Quarto. Original white cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered in blind. With dust jacket. A fine copy in good jacket with slight water damage and rubbing at extremities.
