In 1846 a group of families set out from the farm country outside Springfield, Illinois, led by George Donner, by wagon train for California. The Donner Party, as it came to be known, is now remembered chiefly for the suffering and cannibalism which resulted when the group was trapped in the snow in the Sierras without provisions for the winter. This is the epic poem of the Donner Party. Dust jacket has white spots where color is missing and some chips and small holes. Book has previous owner's name in ink on front free end page. Dust jacket and book are in Very Good Plus condition.

The Book of Hours "A prayer book for the laity, it was also the most frequently commissioned book by both the aristocracy and the middle classes. Its core is a series of prayers devoted to the Virgin Mary, who was deeply venerated in the late medieval era, and which were meant to be recited, ideally, at seven established canonical times (or hours) during the day. An understanding of the contents of the Book of Hours, both textually and pictorially, is essential to our understanding of late medieval piety as well as social life." [blurb] 3.
