Add to basketHardcover. Condition: New. This fourth volume completes a series with coverage of the bogie carriages built from 1906 onward, as well as the electric motors and trailers used by the company's AC electrification schemes. The LB&SCR designers had ambitious plans to modernise the carriage fleet but only two carriages were built usi…ng the proposed new standards, one of which was the Directors' saloon preserved at the Bluebell Railway. The company served the fashionable resorts of the South Coast and to satisfy the demand for luxury stock they became the largest pre-group user of Pullman cars. Two chapters provide the first comprehensive account of Pullmans from a LB&SCR perspective, one describing the 29 cars imported from America, and the second the 31 British built Pullmans, some of which were built on the underframes of returned First World War ambulance trains. The following chapter describes the LB&SCR's own contribution to that War, which included the provision of two ambulance trains which were sent to France. A Supplement gives further information on subjects relevant to all four volumes, including a list of coaching stock equipped for use on vacuum braked lines, Bo-Peep Tunnel restrictions, and additional details of some carriage fittings. The Appendices include further details of Pullmans, and lists of Isle of Wight and British Railways carriages originally built by the LB&SCR. The subject and diagram number indices cover all four volumes.
