August 1926 in Warschau; 29. Dezember 2009 in Leeds) war eine polnische Überlebende des Warschauer Ghettos. Der Vater von Janina Bauman war Chirurg und wurde als polnischer Offizier von der Sowjetunion 1939 gefangen genommen und in Katyn ermordet. Ihr Studium an der Universität Warschau beendete sie 1959 mit dem Magisterexamen. In der Folge arbeitete Janina Bauman als Übersetzerin und Redakteurin bei der staatlichen polnischen Filmgesellschaft. Mit ihren drei Töchtern Anna, Irena und Lydia sowie ihrem Ehemann Zygmunt Bauman musste sie Polen 1968 verlassen. Nach dreijährigem Aufenthalt in Israel siedelte die Familie 1971 nach Großbritannien über. . . . Aus: wikipedia-Janina_Bauman. -- Wladyslaw Bartoszewski (* 19. Februar 1922 in Warschau) ist ein polnischer Historiker, Publizist und Politiker. Leben: Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs schloss er sich dem Widerstand gegen Deutschland an. Jan Karski stellte ihn 1942 Zofia Kossak vor. Er wurde führender Aktivist in Kossaks Konrad-Zegota-Komitee, das etwa 75.000 Juden rettete. Im September 1940 wurde er ins Konzentrationslager Auschwitz verschleppt und im April 1941 schwer krank entlassen. Sein Studium absolvierte er an der geheimen Warschauer Universität (Tajny Uniwersytet Warszawski). 1944 nahm er am Warschauer Aufstand teil. In der stalinistischen Ära nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg arbeitete Bartoszweski kurze Zeit als Journalist, geriet aber ins Visier der Staates und verbrachte sechs Jahre im Gefängnis. 1955 wurde er rehabilitiert und konnte als Historiker und Publizist arbeiten. Er schrieb mehrere historische Werke, die sich mit der Reaktion der Polen auf den Holocaust auseinandersetzten. 1980 engagierte sich Bartoszewski in der Gewerkschaft Solidarnosc. Nach der Verhängung des Kriegsrechts wurde er 1981 erneut inhaftiert. Dank der Hilfe einer befreundeten jüdischen Familie konnte er befreit werden. In den Folgejahren war Bartoszewski unter anderem Gastprofessor in München, Eichstätt und Augsburg. Von 1990 bis 1995 war er polnischer Botschafter in Wien, ernannt von Präsident Lech Walesa. 1995 übernahm er in der Regierung von Józef Oleksy das Amt des Außenministers, trat jedoch zurück, als Aleksander Kwasniewski zum Präsidenten gewählt wurde. Von Juni 2000 bis September 2001 war er erneut Außenminister Polens, diesmal in der Regierung von Jerzy Buzek. Am 60. Jahrestag der Befreiung des Konzentrationslagers Auschwitz, am 27. Januar 2005, hielt Bartoszewski während der dortigen Gedenkveranstaltung eine viel beachtete Rede. Im Parlamentswahlkampf 2007 nahm Bartoszewski Stellung für die oppositionelle Bürgerplattform PO. Während eines Wahlkampfauftrittes hielt er eine Rede, in der er der regierenden Partei PiS vorwarf, das Ansehen Polens in der Welt zu zerstören, zudem hielt er den von der Regierung eingesetzten Diplomaten vor, Amateur-Diplomaten" zu sein. Er betonte, er sei nun 85 Jahre alt und wolle in einem freien Polen sterben. Diese Rede wurde über die Grenzen Polens hinaus bekannt. Seit November 2007 ist er Staatssekretär und außenpolitischer Berater des polnischen Ministerpräsidenten Donald Tusk. Bartoszewski soll sich besonders um die polnisch-deutschen und die polnisch-jüdischen Beziehungen bemühen. In dieser Funktion hat sich Bartoszewski inzwischen sehr kritisch zu dem in Berlin geplanten Zentrum gegen Vertreibung geäußert. Man werde den Dialog mit den Deutschen über die Geschichte suchen, sagte Bartoszewski kurz nach seiner Ernennung. Im Interview für Gazeta Wyborcza am 13. August 2009 sagte er am Schluss: Wenn mir jemand, vor 60 Jahren, als ich geduckt auf dem Appellplatz des KL Auschwitz stand, gesagt hätte, dass ich Deutsche, Bürger eines demokratischen und befreundeten Landes als Freunde haben werde, würde ich ihn für einen Narren halten". . .
