With its emphasis on economy, Rundell's book is credited with opening up "the new and up-to-date era of nineteenth-century cook books" (Quayle, Old Cook Books, p 118). One of the most popular English nineteenth-century cookery books and the earliest manual of household management, originally published in London in 1806. First Edition. Good to very good copies all in contemporary half calf over marbled boards, now with minor surface-wear and some minor abrasions. Panel edges and corners show some wear. Spines gilt-tooled with raised bands and leather labels, the former slightly rubbed along with joints and endbands, and the latter partly or entirely lacking on a few volumes. Some joints cracked, with hinges weak and board becoming loose. Vol. 19 bottom edge shows a stain, with text unaffected. Marble endpapers; preliminary and final leaves foxed. Core text blocks remain uniformly strong, showing only the expected faint foxing and offsetting of age. A well-preserved set overall.
