Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm "hi-fi Monaural" vinyl record, Philips PHM-200-159. We have two of these, one very-good-plus in very-good-plus (with a previous owner's name to jacket verso) and one showing "very good" vinyl (numerous light scratches) in a "near mint" glossy cardboard jacket. The hep sextet, suited up in red blazers and black bow ties (hey, it was New Jersey), include Sonny Richards on either drums or trombone (that's what it says), Ronnie Olsen's guitar, Pete Masters on keyboards, Louie "Loops" Lupo on sax, etc. Here, the swingin' combo invite their Cape May patrons to dance the "frug, bird, watusi," et al. (The Lindy? Really?) to their versions of Richard Penniman's "Lucille," Ray Charles' "What'd I Say," a cover of the Beatles "All My Loving," and their own "The Kangaroo" (which is "rapidly becoming a popular new dance sensation at discos everywhere," we're assured by album notes scribbler Dick Lockte -- with "everywhere" presumably meaning "everywhere between Atlantic City and Dover, Delaware.") Hey, it was a moment in time, called "1964." "Do the Kangaroo!" Reduced from $20.

Mostly Mandel originals including "Just A Hair More," "Campus Blues," and "Righteous," although "Jive Samba" is credited to N. Published by Pickwick International, Inc. / By Arrangement with Mercury Rerrod Productions, Inc., Woodbury, N.Y.
Seller: Cat's Curiosities, Pahrump, NV, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl compilation rock 'n roll record album on the discount Pickwick label, Pickwick/33 SPC-3512, "electronically enhanced for stereo," compiled "By arrangement with Mercury Record Productions," very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good cardboard jacket with some edge wear. Chuck Berry offers "Johnny B. Goode" and "Reelin' and Rockin'"; The Platters perform "Only You" and "The Great Pretender"; Bill Haley and his Comets offer "Rock Around the Clock" and "Shake, Rattle and Roll" (which was of course written in 1954 by Jesse Stone -- usually credited as Charles Calhoun -- and initially recorded in that year by Big Joe Turner.) Jerry Lee Lewis here covering "Drinkin' Wine, Spo Dee O'Dee" is perhaps even more interesting, as this jump blues, written by Stick McGhee and J. Mayo Williams in 1949 and originally recorded for Atlantic by Sticks McGhee & His Buddies -- is credited as one of the first rock 'n roll songs, five years before Elvis, though Atlantic executives insisted McGhee replace the term of address in the title refrain, which originally began "Mother--" with the four now-familiar nonsense syllables. Fats Domino here also contributes two of his best-known hits. Reduced from $14.

No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Not a book but a seven-inch, 45 rpm record, Philips 40400, vinyl near-mint, although a small "cut-out" hole has been drilled through the label. Comes in an original green-and-white Philips company paper sleeve ("one world of music . . . on one great label"). Produced by Jerry Ross "from Philip's album, 'Sunny,' PHM-200-212." NOTE to our European and U.K. customers: We can generally ship one or two, 7-inch, 45 rpm records overseas, padded in a box, for the 8-ounce rate, $16. We will reduce our default shipping charge (designed to handle books of one kilo) appropriately. Shipping anything from three such 45s, to 17 such 45s, will tend to cause our package to fall between 9 oz. And 2 lbs. (0.90 kilograms.), and will thus increase our international shipping rate to $26. This Bobby Hebb single now reduced from $35.
