Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -A First Course in Noncommutative Rings, an outgrowth of the author's lectures at the University of California at Berkeley, is intended as a textbook for a one-semester course in basic ring theory. By aiming the level of writing at the novice rather than the connoisseur and by stressing th the role of examples and motivation, the author has produced a text that is suitable not only for use in a graduate course, but also for self-study in the subject by interested graduate students. More than 400 exercises testing the understanding of the general theory in the text are included in this new edition.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 412 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -The analysis of orthogonal polynomials associated with general weights was a major theme in classical analysis in the twentieth century, and undoubtedly will continue to grow in importance in the future. In this monograph, the authors investigate orthogonal polynomials for exponential weights defined on a finite or infinite interval. The interval should contain 0, but need not be symmetric about 0; likewise the weight need not be even. The authors establish bounds and asymptotics for orthonormal and extremal polynomials, and their associated Christoffel functions. They deduce bounds on zeros of extremal and orthogonal polynomials, and also establish Markov- Bernstein and Nikolskii inequalities. The authors have collaborated actively since 1982 on various topics, and have published many joint papers, as well as a Memoir of the American Mathematical Society. The latter deals with a special case of the weights treated in this book. In many ways, this book is the culmination of 18 years of joint work on orthogonal polynomials, drawing inspiration from the works of many researchers in the very active field of orthogonal polynomials.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 484 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Mathematical Programming and Financial Objectives for Scheduling Projects focuses on decision problems where the performance is measured in terms of money. As the title suggests, special attention is paid to financial objectives and the relationship of financial objectives to project schedules and scheduling. In addition, how schedules relate to other decisions is treated in detail. The book demonstrates that scheduling must be combined with project selection and financing, and that scheduling helps to give an answer to the planning issue of the amount of resources required for a project. The author makes clear the relevance of scheduling to cutting budget costs. The book is divided into six parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to project management. Part two examines scheduling projects in order to maximize their net present value. Part three considers capital rationing. Many decisions on selecting or rejecting a project cannot be made in isolation and multiple projects must be taken fully into account. Since the requests for capital resources depend on the schedules of the projects, scheduling taken on more complexity. Part four studies the resource usage of a project in greater detail. Part five discusses cases where the processing time of an activity is a decision to be made. Part six summarizes the main results that have been accomplished.Springer-Verlag KG, Sachsenplatz 4-6, 1201 Wien 204 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Inverse problems have a long history in acoustics, optics, electromagnetics and geophysics, but only recently have the signals provided by ocean acoustic sensors become numerous and sophisticated enough to allow for realistic identification of the ocean parameters. Acoustic signals propagating for long distances in the water column and reflections of underwater sound from the ocean boundaries provide novel problems of interpretation and inversion. The chapters in this volume discuss some of the contemporary aspects of these problems. They provide recent and useful results for bottom recognition, inverse scattering in acoustic wave guides, and ocean acoustic tomography, as well as a discussion of some of the new algorithms, such as those related to matched-field processing, that have recently been used for inverting experimental data. Each chapter is by a noted expert in the field and represents the state of the art. The chapters have all been edited to provide a uniform format and level of presentation.Springer-Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 236 pp. Englisch.…
